SHIBA Ryotaro Memorial Room on the 1st floor of the South Wing (Admission free)

SHIBA Ryotaro (1923-1996), a writer born in Osaka City, was closely associated with Himeji. His grandfather and preceding ancestors were based in Hiro Village in Banshu area (present-day Hirohata in Himeji City), and he is a descendant of the disciples of the True Pure Land School of Buddhism, known as "Banshu monto."

The SHIBA Ryotaro Memorial Room focuses on the association of SHIBA Ryotaro with the Harima area through exhibition of Harimanada Monogatari, a historical novel written by him, as well as artifacts (e.g. manuscripts, artworks/book cover illustrations, historical materials) and graphic displays. The room also gives a themed exhibition titled "Insights into Banshu People" on historical figures from Himeji area in SHIBA's novels.

Open hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Closed on Mondays (and on days when Himeji City Museum of Literature is closed)

The café offers mild coffee with a soft yet rich flavor, made by a unique mix of several kinds of high-quality coffee beans.

*Special breakfast menu is available from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
